Any book of Ali is a book I am eagerly waiting for and although it was known
from Fan-Fiction that Ali ventured into the realm of fantasy & paranormal
fiction this is her first published novel with Vampires & their
counterparts. Let me say Ali really delves into this tall tale which spans
the time of Hatschepsut, the one and only female pharao, to modern time New
Orleans (with some lovingly depicted scenes of 18th century
Louisiana-plantation life) and she really makes a go for it – I can imagine
a lot of chuckling while she was writing it sans limit! Alas, I didn’t like
(at all) one of the main characters, Piper, the Contrary, and the show down
at the end had some weaker points.
Nonetheless this is a story with lots of wonderful and smooth storytelling,
good secondary characters and a wonderful warrior poet with sharp weapons -
what can I say: swoon <vbg>.
